Ryan Reynolds invests in Formula One

 

Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney and Michael B. Jordan are the latest celebrities to invest in Formula One, joining Otro Capital and RedBird Capital Partners in a 24% equity stake in Alpine Racing. The deal struck this summer (2023) is reportedly worth €200 million, which values Alpine Racing at approximately £706 million. 

Reynolds and McElhenney are no strangers to the world of sports ownership, having previously co-purchased Welsh soccer club Wrexham in 2020. The duo have been praised for their approach to Wrexham, frequently attending games and promoting the whole town. In a statement, Reynolds said that he and McElhenney are "excited to help shine a light on this incredible team." He added that they believe there is "tremendous untapped potential in Alpine Racing." Alpine Racing is currently fifth in the Formula One constructors' championship. 

The team is led by Esteban Ocon, who finished ninth in the drivers' championship last season, and Fernando Alonso, who is a two-time world champion. The investment by Reynolds, McElhenney, and their partners is a sign of confidence in the future of Formula One. The sport is currently undergoing a period of growth, with new regulations and a new media deal set to come into effect in 2023.
