Jonas Vingegaard: The Danish Giant Who Conquered the Tour de France


Jonas Vingegaard is a Danish professional cyclist who rides for UCI WorldTeam Team Jumbo–Visma. He is the reigning champion of the Tour de France, having won the race in 2022. He is currently over ten minutes ahead of the second place cyclist and looks set to ride into Paris on Sunday (July 21st 2023) to reclaim his Tour title this year. Vingegaard was born in Hillerslev, Denmark, on December 10, 1996. He started cycling at a young age, and quickly showed promise in the sport. He turned professional in 2019, and joined Team Jumbo–Visma in 2020.  

Vingegaard's breakthrough came in the 2021 Tour de France. He was initially a domestique for Primož Roglič, but when Roglič crashed out of the race, Vingegaard stepped up to the plate. He finished second overall, behind Tadej Pogačar. In 2022, Vingegaard returned to the Tour de France as the team leader for Team Jumbo–Visma. He was the clear favorite for the overall victory, and he delivered, winning the race by more than five minutes. Vingegaard is a tall and powerful cyclist, with a natural talent for climbing. He is also a very intelligent rider, and he is able to read the race well. These qualities made him a formidable opponent in the 2022 Tour de France, and he will be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come. 

In addition to his success in the Tour de France, Vingegaard has also won the Critérium du Dauphiné, the Tour of the Basque Country, and the Tour of Slovenia.
